What Is DuMate?

DuMate is a general-purpose AI agent from Baidu that aims to be the single control panel for your digital work. Rather than offering one narrow capability, it bundles screen reading, software operation, file processing, and cross-system automation into a unified platform.

The core pitch: you tell DuMate what you need done, and it figures out which of its integrated tools to deploy. Need to research a topic? It taps Baidu Search AI. Need to build a quick internal app? It fires up Miaoda, Baidu's coding agent. Need to analyze a spreadsheet and generate a report? It handles the pipeline end-to-end.

This "agent of agents" architecture is what sets DuMate apart from simpler chatbots. It doesn't just answer questions. It takes actions across your desktop and connected services. Think of it as a digital employee that's always on, always watching your screen (with permission), and ready to jump in when you assign a task.

Baidu positions DuMate as a 24/7 business companion. In practice, its strength scales directly with how embedded you are in the Baidu ecosystem. If you already use Baidu for search, cloud storage, and development tools, DuMate becomes a force multiplier. If you're outside that ecosystem, you're fighting upstream.

Key Features of DuMate

DuMate's feature set spans five core areas. Each one integrates directly with Baidu's backend services, which is both the product's greatest strength and its biggest limitation.

Screen Reading and Computer Use. DuMate can observe your screen in real time, identify UI elements, and perform actions like clicking, scrolling, typing, and navigating between applications. In our testing, it reliably handled form-filling tasks and basic multi-step workflows across desktop applications. It stumbled on non-standard UI components and custom enterprise software, but for mainstream apps, it worked.

Miaoda Coding Agent. This integrated coding tool generates, debugs, and deploys code directly within DuMate. You describe what you want in natural language, and Miaoda produces working code. It handles Python, JavaScript, and several other languages. For quick scripts and prototypes, it's genuinely fast. For complex production code, you'll still need a dedicated coding environment like Pieces for Developers.

Famou Agent for App Creation. Need a simple internal tool? Famou lets you describe an application and generates a functional prototype. It's limited to relatively straightforward apps - dashboards, data entry forms, simple CRUD tools - but the speed is impressive. We went from description to working prototype in under 10 minutes for a basic inventory tracker.

Baidu Search AI Integration. DuMate's research capabilities tap directly into Baidu's search index with AI-powered summarization. For Chinese-language research, this is excellent. The search results are current, well-sourced, and the AI summarization actually adds value rather than just rephrasing snippets. For English-language research, results are noticeably weaker than what you'd get from tools listed in our AI research assistant comparison.

File Processing and Data Analysis. Upload spreadsheets, PDFs, documents, or images, and DuMate can parse, analyze, summarize, and transform them. It handles Chinese-language documents particularly well. The data analysis pipeline connects to visualization tools, so you can go from raw CSV to formatted charts without leaving the interface.

DuMate Pricing and Plans

DuMate uses a freemium model with usage-based scaling. Here's what we found as of May 2026:

PlanPriceWhat You Get
Free¥0/monthBasic screen reading, limited Miaoda coding sessions, standard search AI, small file uploads
Pro¥59/month ($8)Extended coding, large file processing, priority API, faster response times
EnterpriseContact BaiduCustom deployment, dedicated support, API access, team management

Pricing is listed in Chinese yuan on Baidu's official DuMate page. The free tier is functional enough to evaluate whether the tool fits your workflow. The Pro tier removes most friction - the free tier's coding session limits and file size caps are the main bottlenecks you'll hit during real work.

Compared to Western alternatives, DuMate's pricing is aggressive. Zo Computer, which offers similar computer-use capabilities, charges significantly more for comparable features. The tradeoff is ecosystem lock-in and language constraints.

Who Should (and Shouldn't) Use DuMate

DuMate is built for you if:

  • You operate primarily in Chinese-language business environments
  • You're already embedded in Baidu's ecosystem (search, cloud, development tools)
  • You want a single AI platform that handles research, coding, automation, and file processing
  • You need a screen-reading agent for desktop task automation at low cost
  • You're a small-to-midsize business in China looking for an affordable AI assistant

Skip DuMate if:

  • Your primary working language is English. The interface, documentation, and AI responses are Chinese-first. You can make it work, but you'll fight the tool constantly.
  • You need deep integrations with Western SaaS tools like Salesforce, Slack, or Google Workspace. DuMate connects to Baidu's ecosystem, not the Western tech stack.
  • You need enterprise-grade security certifications (SOC 2, GDPR) for regulated industries in Western markets. Baidu operates under Chinese data governance frameworks.
  • You want a specialized tool for one specific task. DuMate is a generalist. If you only need AI-powered CRM, something like Salesforce Einstein will outperform it in that narrow lane.

How Does DuMate Compare to Meta AI?

Both DuMate and Meta AI are general-purpose AI assistants from tech giants, but they serve fundamentally different markets and use cases.

Ecosystem integration. DuMate wins here for Chinese users. Its integration with Baidu Search, Miaoda coding, and Famou app creation creates a genuine productivity stack. Meta AI integrates with Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook - useful for social-first workflows but not for business automation.

Computer use capabilities. DuMate has real screen-reading and desktop automation. Meta AI does not. If you need an agent that can click buttons and fill forms across applications, DuMate is the clear choice.

Language and market. Meta AI works well in English and dozens of other languages. DuMate is Chinese-first. This is the deciding factor for most readers of this review.

Pricing. Both offer free tiers. DuMate's paid tier (~$8/month) is cheaper than most premium AI assistants, and you get coding and automation capabilities that Meta AI doesn't offer at any price.

Our take: If you work in Chinese and need business automation, DuMate is the stronger tool. If you work in English and need a general AI assistant, Meta AI or other Western options will serve you better.

Our Testing Process

We tested DuMate over two weeks in May 2026, focusing on its core capabilities across screen automation, coding, research, and file processing.

Our test environment included a Windows 11 desktop with standard business applications. We ran DuMate through a battery of tasks: automating a 15-step data entry workflow, generating a Python data processing script with Miaoda, building a simple inventory app with Famou, and researching market data using the integrated Baidu Search AI.

The screen-reading automation worked reliably on 11 of 15 test tasks. Failures occurred on custom enterprise software with non-standard UI elements. Miaoda's coding output was clean for scripts under 200 lines but needed manual debugging on larger projects. Research quality for Chinese-language topics was excellent. English-language research returned adequate but not competitive results.

We haven't tested the Enterprise tier or long-term reliability beyond our two-week window. Testing was conducted by a bilingual team member - monolingual English speakers would have a significantly harder experience.

Tested May 2026. Editorially reviewed by Todd Stearn. Read more about how we work.

The Bottom Line

DuMate is the most capable general-purpose AI agent available in the Chinese tech ecosystem right now. Its integration of screen automation, coding, research, and app creation into a single platform is genuinely useful, and the pricing undercuts most Western competitors. For Chinese-speaking professionals and businesses already using Baidu's tools, it's an easy recommendation at 7/10.

The rating reflects a real limitation: DuMate is a regional powerhouse, not a global one. The Chinese-first interface, Baidu ecosystem dependency, and limited Western integrations make it impractical for most English-speaking teams. If Baidu expands language support and third-party integrations, this score goes up fast.
